Giving Hope To The Homeless Since 1956
|
Established in 1956 by Don and Wilma Chalfant as “The Haven
of Rest Rescue Mission”, the Haven provided meals, shelter and
the gospel message to homeless men. Since that time, the
Haven has grown to offer many innovative programs that provide
services to the ever changing homeless population who need
assistance in learning the necessary steps that lead individuals to
self-sufficiency and productivity. The Haven provides
comprehensive services to the homeless individual through
emergency shelter, food, transitional housing, substance abuse
treatment and case management.
The Haven of Rest is hosting their 1st Annul Golf Outing on August 22nd 2008 at
Binder Park Golf Course to benefit The Haven’s Life Recovery Program. Registration
and lunch starts at 12:00p.m. and the shotgun start is at 1:00p.m. The Haven’s Life
Recovery Program provides homeless men with the life skills necessary to break the
depressing cycle of substance dependency and homelessness. Your participation in
The Haven’s First Annual Golf Outing will have a direct impact in making our
community a better place for everyone to live.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for golfers in our community to play on a beautiful
course for a great cause,” said Executive Director of The Haven, Elaine Hunsicker. “If
you’re a golfer chances are that you would be on the course anyway, so why not sign
up for The Haven’s 1st Annual Golf Outing and help give those who are less fortunate
an opportunity to change their life and become self-sufficient members of the
community.”
Golfers of all skill levels are welcome to play in The Haven’s 1st Annual Golf Outing to
benefit the Life Recovery Program. You can sign up as an individual, couple, group of
three or as a foursome. The venue will be a 4-person best ball scramble with many fun
competitions within the scramble. There will be prizes for teams that finish in first
place, individuals with the longest drive and put as well as a chance to win a brand
new Pontiac G-6 from Lassen Automotive with a hole-in-one!
The Haven’s Life Recovery Program is a 12-month residency where homeless men
become students and receive instruction, case management, therapy and opportunity
for spiritual growth. The Life Recovery Program is well known in the community for its
uncanny success in rebuilding the lives of homeless men and freeing them of the
barriers of addiction that have held them from being the person they are meant to be.
These men are the fathers, sons, brother, uncles and cousins to the families we live
with right here in our community and with your support, The Haven can help these
men become positive role models and loving family members.
To participate in The Haven of Rest’s First Annual Golf Outing, please call The
Haven at (269) 965-1148 and ask for Steve Parker or simply mail in your entry
fee of $50.00 per person to The Haven of Rest, 11 Green St. Battle Creek, MI
49014. Sponsorships are also still available starting at $100 for a Hole
Sponsor all the way to Platinum Event Sponsors.
