The purpose of the Calhoun County Jail Ministry is to provide a Christian Evangelistic and
discipleship program for the inmate population that is of absolute Biblical tenor and strictly
Gospel in character, for the Salvation of lost humanity and the Eternal Glory of God.
Doctrinal Statement:
Mission Statement:
- One God in three person: Father, Son and Holy Spirit
- The infallible, verbal inspiration of the Bible
- The eternal deity of Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life. His substitution death, His
bodily resurrection, His present intercession at the right hand of God the Father, and
His personal return again to reign on this earth.
- Salvation by faith through grace, without works.
- The power of the blood of Christ to save and cleanse from all sin.
- The eternal damnation in hell of all those who reject Christ.
- The absolute command in God's Word to evangelise all lands and people.
- Regularly scheduled Gospel Outreach. Preaching Christ
crucified, risen and salvation by grace through faith.
- Regularly scheduled Bible Studies, male and female,
teaching the elements of Christian faith.
- Correspondence Bible studies provided through several
venues.
- Spanish Bible studies regularly provided by our Hispanic
chaplain.
- Chines Bible studies regularly provided by the Kalamazoo
Chinese Christian Church.
- Multilingual Bible distributions by various Christian agencies.
- Registry and accommodation of churches and their
ministers.
- OverComers Substance Abuse and addictive lifestyle
program.
- Believers Baptism for those requesting.
- Assisting local Catholic diocese in fulfilling their programs.
- Assistance to non-Christian groups as support for secular
needs apart from involvement in ecumenical purposes.
Outreach and Endeavor
- Assistance with literacy needs and teaching
reading and writing.
- Co-operation with program providing
alternatives to incarceration such as Work
First, K-PEP, Work Release and Inmate worker
opportunities.
- Assistance and representation of inmates for
emergency release and funeral arrangements.
- One-on-one counseling as able within the
guidelines of policy and qualification.
- Enablement of denominational religious
material to be distributed to inmates; Bibles,
newsletters, etc.
- Supply and upkeep of jail pod book carts.
- Daily distribution of newspaper, USA Today, to
each pod.
- Opportunities for inmates to purchase
wholesale Bible's and Bible study helps.
- Provides accommodation of emergency
postage and inmate supply when needed.
- Assists residents at holiday seasons and
celebrations; birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
Opportunity for Civilian Involvement:
There are two ways to be a part of the jail ministry:
- Services are between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
- Must call in advance and arrive 15 minutes prior to 1:00 p.m.
- Must meet security requirements.
- Must take total responsibility for self and issues of liability.
- Must maintain a non-offensive evangelistic approach to ministry.
- OverComers Victory Through Christ (VTC) Substance Abuse Program
- Thursday evenings between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
- Must call in advance and arrive 15 minutes prior to 6:00 p.m.
- Must meet security requirements.
- Must take total responsibility for self and issues of liability.
- Must be sensitive to the issues of inmate confidentiality and privacy.
- Must be willing to dedicate self to weekly involvement in program.
- Agree to purchase and use the OverComers program materials.
